How to use this template

  1. 1

Add your company, license, and the customer

Enter your business name, plumbing license, and the customer this certificate is issued to. The warranty is granted by you and tied to the completed job — add the invoice or work-order number as the job reference.

  2. 2

    Set the coverage terms

Enter your workmanship / labor term (pre-filled at 12 months) and the manufacturer parts term (pre-filled at 10 years). The completion date sets the coverage start, and expiry dates calculate automatically as you type.

  3. 3

    List what's covered and excluded

Edit the covered and excluded bullet lists and the claim process. Defaults follow standard contractor language — tailor them to the equipment you installed and the work you performed.

  4. 4

    Sign and download

Add contractor and customer signatures, then export as PDF, Excel, or Word (.docx). Hand it to the customer or email the PDF when you collect final payment — coverage is conditional on being paid in full.

Why a written plumbing warranty builds trust

Plumbing failures show up at the worst possible time, so a written warranty certificate reassures the customer that a covered leak or fixture problem is a phone call, not a second bill. It states plainly what you stand behind — your labor for a year, the fixture or water-heater parts for as long as the manufacturer covers them.

The strongest certificates state the three coverage types separately: your workmanship labor guarantee, the pass-through manufacturer parts warranty, and any optional extended plan. Listing exclusions (consumable washers and gaskets, misuse, freezing, unregistered equipment) protects you from call-backs that were never your fault.

Warranty Template FAQs

What's the difference between a workmanship warranty and a manufacturer warranty?

A workmanship warranty is your own guarantee that the labor is defect-free — the pipe joints and fittings you soldered or crimped, the valves and supply lines you connected, and the way the fixture was set. A manufacturer warranty covers the fixture or water heater itself (tank, cartridge, pump) and comes from the brand, not the plumber. This certificate states your labor guarantee and passes through the manufacturer's parts coverage so the customer sees both in one place.

Most contractors guarantee their workmanship for about one year, while the manufacturer parts warranty on installed equipment often runs 10 years. Both clocks start on the completion or installation date, not the purchase date — so this certificate records that date and calculates each expiry from it.

Neglected maintenance such as skipping a water-heater flush, DIY or third-party repairs, misuse, and damage from freezing, floods, or pressure surges all void plumbing workmanship coverage. Failing to register a water heater within the manufacturer's window can also shorten the parts warranty to its base term.

Usually not — a contractor workmanship warranty is written for the original customer and this template is non-transferable by default, voiding if the property changes hands. Some manufacturer parts warranties allow a one-time transfer to a new owner within a set window, but that is separate from your labor guarantee. Edit the terms if you choose to offer transfer.

The customer contacts you in writing — using the phone or email on the certificate — within 30 days of noticing a defect, and includes the certificate number, the original invoice, and photos. You must be given a reasonable opportunity to inspect and remedy the issue before anyone else is hired. The claim process field spells this out so expectations are clear up front.
